The temperature is going to ease up a little this weekend, thank goodness. What has been going on?

Normally when we share items from NextDoor we remove the names of the people posting to protect their privacy since NextDoor is a closed group that’s associated with your physical address. However, Ms. Chi Chi Williams seems to be a new face of advocacy in Ward 8 and, as a public figure, we felt it appropriate to disclose her name here. A South Korean band named Stray Kids played on Monday at Nats Park and, judging by her post, the heat overwhelmed many audience members. What’s most alarming to me is that I haven’t heard much about this concert– not before it happened, or from Nationals management– and have certainly not heard reports on what seems like a harrowing time had by many attendees on what was a blisteringly hot day.

“If football stadiums drove economic activity, Landover would be at least an above-average suburban destination for shopping and entertainment. Instead, the old Landover Mall site decays behind chain-link fencing roughly a mile from Northwest Stadium, the Commanders’ current home. Alternatively, if football stadiums made cities interesting and engaging, the Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium would link together bustling neighborhoods. Instead, its gloomy emptiness extends across the adjacent blocks except on a handful of days each year.”

Wise words and simple but undeniably true observations in this excellent opinon piece by Salim Furth in the Washington Post (gift link)

By the way– do you want the Fields at RFK to remain untouched during whatever happens at the stadium, uh, happens? Then sign this petition: No Stadium Deal Without the Fields at RFK.
