- MPD Arrests Five More Teens in Navy Yard Retail Theft, Search for Additional Suspects Ongoing


Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce the arrest of additional suspects involved in a retail theft offense.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a group of suspects entered a CVS in the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast, and took items without paying. When they were confronted by a security guard one of the suspects threw a bottle, missing the security guard.
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, as a result of the detectives’ investigation the following arrests were made:
-A 15-year-old female of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft
-A 15-year-old female of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Receiving Stolen Property
Both of the above arrestees were also charged with assault for the offense that occurred on the National Mall prior to the retail theft at approximately 8:15 p.m.
-A 15-year-old male of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft
-Two 14-year-old males of Southeast, were arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft
Previously, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, as a result of the detectives’ investigation, a 16-year-old male of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two, Theft and Assault on a Police Officer.

- MPD Arrests Suspect in February Northeast Shooting
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce the arrest of a man wanted for a shooting that occurred in February, in Northeast.
On February 28, 2024, at 12:29 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to the area of the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast, to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Officers located an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
On Sunday, April 28, 2024, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team located and arrested 33-year-old Scotland Alston, of Northeast. He was charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (gun).
- MPD Arrests Teens for Carjacking Offenses in the First District
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce the arrest of four teens for carjackings that occurred in the First District.
-Armed Carjacking: On Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 5:45 p.m., two suspects approached the victim, as he was sitting on his moped, at 11th Street and O Street, Southeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s property and moped. The victim complied. The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s property and moped. The victim’s moped has been recovered. This case remains under investigation. CCN: 24063638
-Armed Carjacking: On Monday, April 29, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., three suspects approached the victim, as he was sitting on his moped, at 13th Street and H Street, Northeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun as the two additional suspects pulled the victim from the moped. The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s moped. The victim’s moped has been recovered. -Unarmed Carjacking: On Monday, April 29, 2024, at 1:08 p.m., two suspects approached the victim, as he was sitting on his moped, at 9th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. One of the suspects acted as though he had a gun, which made the victim get off his moped. As the suspects were getting on the moped, the victim flagged down a DC Housing Authority Officer. The suspects were apprehended by canvassing officers and with the assistance of the MPD helicopter.
A 15-year-old juvenile male, of Temple Hills, MD, was arrested and charged with the above offenses.
Additionally, a 16-year-old juvenile male, of Southeast, DC, a 16-year-old juvenile male, of Southwest, DC, and 18-year-old Jershaun Marshall, of no fixed address, were arrested and charged with the offenses that occurred on Monday, April 29, 2024.

- MPD Investigating Southeast Homicide
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast.
On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at approximately 12:23 p.m., First District officers responded to the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from gunshot wound injuries. He died at the scene.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
- MPD Arrests Man for October 2020 Triple Shooting
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce the arrest of a man for an October 2020 shooting that left three people injured.
On October 10, 2020, at approximately 8:32 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 600 block of 19th Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located two men and a woman with gunshot wound injuries. They were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
On May 2, 2024, 30-year-old Earnest Dangelo Cleveland, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant.

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, as a result of the detectives’ investigation a 16-year-old juvenile male of Northeast, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (bottle), Burglary 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and Theft 2nd Degree.
Previously, detectives’ have made six arrests relating to this incident:
-A 15-year-old female of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft

- MPD Searching for Suspect in a Firearm Offense
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in an Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm offense in Northeast.
On Thursday, May 2, 2024, at approximately 1:52 p.m., a suspect discharged a handgun in the 900 block of F Street, Northeast. The suspect then fled the scene. There were no reports of injuries or damage to property. The suspect was captured by a surveillance camera and can be seen the photo at right:
