Payne ES Fall Festival
WHAT: A relaxing way to make friends and check out a neighborhood school. There will be a petting zoo, silent auction, giant slide and much more.
WHEN: Saturday, October 23, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
WHERE: Payne ES, 15th and C Streets SE

WHAT: Support a local Boy Scout troop and decorate for Halloween: a win-win! Psst– our pal Del Voss will also have honey for sale, so it’s reeeeeally worth your while.
WHEN: Friday, October 22, 5-7 p.m; Saturday, October 23, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday, October 24, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
WHERE: Pumpkins in front of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 212 East Capitol Street NE. Honey sales, in front of 7-River Mart, 10th and C Streets NE.

The Live on the Hill series has been extended and, luckily for us all, October has FIVE Fridays! Today, enjoy music by Amy Bormet.
October 29 marks the last concert in the series (boo), and it will feature Imani Grace-Cooper.

The Capitol Hill Art League opens a members-only juried art exhibit titled, “Words Matter” on Saturday, October 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street SE. The show will hang through December 4. More information here.

Barracks Row Main Street decided to do away with the Fall Festival for a second year in a row, but this year they’ve put together Oktrowberfest, a fun day of specials along the main street, yoga, an Oompa band and more. You can even get a leg up on your 2020 taxes, courtesy of Jackson Hewitt! Alas, the street will not be closed to traffic. I reached out to BRMS for a comment but haven’t heard back as to why. Habitat Young Professionals are holding Pumpkinfest, their first event of the fall season, at Bardo Brewing, 25 Potomac Avenue SE. Pumpkinfest will happen on Saturday, October 23, starting at 1 p.m. More info and tickets here.

The Literary Pumpkin Walk is happening on October 23 all over the Hill and you are invited to participate. Sign up here.

OFF-HILL BUT AWESOME: 

Put it on the calendar RIGHT NOW! The Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building is reopening on November 20 and there is a host of incredible activities to mark this special occasion, starting with the FUTURES REMIXED three-day festival, November 19-21. The Congressional Chorus‘s first concert of the season will be a spooky Halloween-themed romp called “A Nightmare on G Street.” More info here.

ARTECHOUSE is a museum focusing on immersive experiences that incorporate the magic of technology and the whimsy of artistic expression. Their newest installation is called “The Life of a Neuron.” You can visit the exhibit for a great price with STEAM Family Days, every Tuesday and Wednesday.
