I wont’ get tired of thanking our eagle-eyed readers for keeping us in the loop. Earlier this morning, readers Katrina Avila and Callie Bruemmer tagged us on their Instagram stories, sharing the excitement that’s building on Barracks Row: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is opening a store in the 500 block 8th Street SE, east side, between E and G Streets. They will be located right next door to Taoti Creative— which has been busy at work expanding their headquarters since last year. Jeni’s made a splash back in 2017 when they chose to open their first East Coast location on 14th Street.
Not only does Jeni’s reputation for premium, delicious ice cream precede the store, which will hopefully be open in time for many socially distanced summer treats, but it’s also amazing to have not just one but two new ice cream options after Trickling Springs left our area so suddenly and sadly, and Pitango Gelato decided to nix operations in our neighborhood. We look forward to welcoming Jeni’s whenever they open, as well as welcoming a bricks-and-mortar Captain Cookie and the Milkman store in the former location of Pitango, which Eastern Market Main Street shared on their Instagram earlier today.
We love ice cream.
