Goodbye, Pitango?!

THIH reader Joe Wallace sent us a tweet earlier today asking whether we knew what had happened to Pitango Gelato:

Did @PitangoGelato on 7th close? @theHillisHome @PoPville @districtcuisine I sure hope not. pic.twitter.com/vaXPnGtYO0— Joe Wallace (@Joepwallace) November 6, 2019

As soon as we saw Joe’s tweet, we felt a cold dread overtake us– not the creamy, delicious cold that comes when you first start to eat a delicious gelato, but the one that sticks to you like fever chills. We reached out to Pitango Gelato directly, who sent the following message:

We have decided to close our Capitol Hill shop in order to move to a larger location. We have loved being a part of the Capitol Hill community and will miss our loyal customers. Please visit us in our Penn Quarter, Adams Morgan, Reston and Fells Point shops! Sincerely, the Pitango Team

No word on when the last day for the store was, but we are devastated. First Trickling Springs and now Pitango? Do not let the Fine Sweet Shoppe out of your sight for a second, DO YOU HEAR ME?!
