To Do: Weekend of September 12th through 15th

Art All Night takes over H Street Saturday night, even the streetcar. Pictured is Tamika Love Jones and Ben Gates performing on the trolley.

Oh, hey y’all. Another weekend is almost here. How are we going to spend our precious time?

Tonight, Councilmember Charles Allen (my boss) sits down with reporters Tom Sherwood and Mark Seagraves for All Politics is Local at the Hill Center. The two veteran reporters will engage the councilmember on a variety of policy and political topics. The disscussion begins at 7 p.m. and is free but register here.

Friday, ExPat Theatre presents Surfacing: An Inventory of Helplessness at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. The play focuses on three characters who are each living in captivity. The three characters are living separate existences and the play explores their mental states, survival strategies, and the way their minds work through cycles of hope, fear, anger, and desperation. The show runs through September 29 and tickets are available here.

Saturday, Brewers on the Block returns to Union Market. The Airstream-based cocktail emporium Suburbia hosts over 40 local brewers. Your ticket entitles you to a souvenir tasting glass and unlimited tastings. Live music from Big Bad Juju begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $55 for general entry and $75 for VIP access, which gets you early access and some of Suburbia’s delicious frozen cocktails. The fun starts at 2 p.m. and will all be over by 6.

Sip and Savor, the annual event supporting the great work of Everyone Home DC, returns to the North Hall of Eastern Market. Enjoy food and drink provided by over 20 local restaurants. WUSA 9 host Reese Waters will be the evening’s MC and attendees will enjoy the music of Sciatic Verve. Yessss. Tickets are still available here.

Art All Night is back Saturday night and into Sunday morning with performances happening in eight Main Street neighborhoods in town. H Street once again will be feature performances and exhibits all along the corridor, including the streetcar and the Starburst Plaza.

I can’t find the schedule listed online to link to, so here it is. Have fun!
