Oh Dear Heavens: Goodbye to the 7-Eleven at 8th and Maryland

It appears that the 7-Eleven that used to operate at the southeast corner of 8th Street and Maryland Avenue NE is no more. According to a PoPVille reader, the oft rat-infested and kind of always understocked 7-Eleven closed down for good on Sunday, July 21. There is no other explanation on the front door other than a piece of paper with an unceremonious “CLOSED” typed up in uppercase. The papered-up windows are ripped and the lights are still on; however, 7-Eleven was very quick to update their site showing that Maryland and 8th is no longer a store.

Even though you were a rather not-great 7-Eleven, you were a convenient gathering/Slurpee spot for many a thirsty Stuart-Hobson middle schooler. If you walk by, you can still score a Slurpee plastic cup from all the cabinetry that was left outside the shop, so you can collect your tears. We look forward to seeing the space turn into condos, probably. We’ll let you know.
