It seems like just yesterday that H Street NE was all torn up, under construction, and thoroughly bereft of a cheerful and ringing red tram. And then, on February 27, 2016 –a date that will be forever known as #ChooChoo7– the DC Streetcar started lighting up our lives officially and becoming a a perennial punch bag for alternative transportation haters everywhere.

Here at The Hill is Home, we love the Streetcar– the second most controversial Pisces to make DC home since Mayor-for-Life Marion Barry. We want to start off the celebration by wishing the Streetcar a happy 3rd birthday ahead of the official February 27 date, and by encouraging fans to tweet their birthday wishes to the streetcar and their crew via social media! You can tag the streetcar on the following platforms:

Happy birthday, DC Streetcar! We still get a burst of joy when we see you gliding down the street or every time you ring your bell to alert a double-parked car to get out of the way! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Update: There will be a birthday party for the Streetcar tomorrow, February 26, at 3 p.m. at 1233 H Street NE. True to form, the party is called “Thwee.” Look, #ChooChoo7 was bad enough, but THWEE? Come on. No one says “whee” aboard the streetcar, not even the little piggy.
