Learn to make these sweet Kokedama at Steadfast Supply on Sunday afternoon

Greetings friends! I hope you enjoyed the snowy day yesterday. I observed in the customary fashion by baking/carbo loading in pajamas while binging the delightful Sex Education on Netflix. Truly a peak day. How shall we top it?

Tonight, kick off the annual INTERSECTIONS Festival at the Atlas Performing Arts Center with the Washington Post Launch Party. Held in the lobby of the historic building, the party features nibbles and drinks and a performance by the classical guitarist Matthew Mills. This is just the beginning, folks. The festival features all kinds of performances in theatre, music and dance as well as family oriented fare and a visual arts component. The festival happens over the next two weekends and there is a jam packed schedule with free and ticketed events.

Friday is National Margarita Day and this does not refer to the classic Neapolitan pizzabut the tequila-based drink paired best with vats of guacamole and unlimited baskets of chips. While you are free to observe this most sacred holiday at one of the many restaurants on the Hill or as you see fit, Mission in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood has deals on the drinks.

You can also work on your figure drawing skills at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. This week’s Friday ARTnight offering a three-hour drawing session featuring nude models. The adults-only workshop is open to all for a $15 fee. Participants should bring their own materials and snacks though easels and drawing boards will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The sessions is 6:30 -9:30 p.m. and you can call (202) 547-6839 for more information.

Gallery O/H hosts an opening reception for the exhibit Indelible from 7 to 10 p.m.. This multimedia two-story exhibit was curated by gallery owner Dolly Vehlow and Busboys and Poets’ curator Carol Dyson. The show seeks to illustrate a continuum of injustice in our nation, featuring artists, often overlooked, working in its capital city. Tickets are free.

If you miss the Obamas, this may or may not be a triggering event. The former FLOTUS’ memoir was the best selling book of 2018 and has given rise to Becoming: The Comedy Show. Solid State Books plays host to
DC’s top stand-up comedians as they reminisce about the Obamas, read funny excerpts from the book, and recount failed attempts to follow Michelle’s new eating guidelines. Tickets are $5 and the show begins at 8 p.m. For questions about the show, message @NovelComedy on Facebook or e-mail comedy@kashapatel.com.

Feeling lucky? Rock & Rock Hotel is hosting their new every-Friday event, the Bring Home the Bacon Happy Hour. You can roll the dice for a discount on your drink, and you can enjoy free slices of bacon. Enjoy, carnivores!

Saturday, bring the kids to East City Books for the first Drag Queen Storytime. There are many things I am bitter did not exist when I was raising small kids on the Hill, such as spray parks and Boogie Babes concerts, but I deeply regret not having the chance to take them to a Drag Queen storytime. The DC Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will read aloud beginning at 3 p.m. The event is free and will no doubt be fabulous.

Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. go to Steadfast Supply in Navy Yard to learn to make a Japanese Kokedama which means “moss ball.” Folks from Lillith Plant Shop will instruct participants in the ways of creating and maintaining these sweet natural decorations. The $45 fee includes materials and one drink. Book your space here.
