The Hill is Home is sharing the statements of ANC candidates in our general region. Although the main focus of our blog is Capitol Hill –served by ANCs 6A through 6C– we feel that a community is made stronger by the neighbors with whom we share a close geographical area. We are honored to share candidate statements from neighbors from Ivy City to Navy Yard, with minor style edits. To all of you who are running: Thank you. –Maria Helena Carey and Kate McFadden
My name is Taylor Kuether and I am running to represent ANC 6B05. A native Midwesterner, I’ve been lucky to call the Hill home for several years now and have loved every minute. 6B is special –that’s why I am running to help represent it.
I believe representation should do exactly that: Represent. I am not running to advocate for myself or my personal opinions; I am running to represent YOU.
As demographics change, so too should representation. My vision for ANC6B05 is one of inclusion, compromise, and advocacy for all members of our community. I hope constituents in ANC6B05 feel listened to, with empathy and understanding, and feel their collective voice is part of decision-making processes. That is my platform: Open communication with constituents and compromise when an issue necessitates it. I promise always to act in the best interest of the people of this neighborhood and to elevate your comments and concerns. I believe that is the role of an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, and if elected it will be my honor to fulfill that role.
Communication is paramount to both my platform and my leadership style: I want all members of the 6B05 community to be able to reach me and know they’ll receive a prompt response. I am reachable always to constituents via phone and email and, if elected, hope to set up casual monthly “office hours” in my home or in a suitable neighborhood venue to meet with community members in-person. My goal is to be as accessible as possible to you via whatever means are most convenient for you.
I’m honored to have earned Greater Greater Washington’s endorsement and invite you to peruse my full responses to their candidate survey here. You’ll find I strongly support better implementation and socialization of DC’s Vision Zero campaign, agree with the current ANC’s letter regarding the historical designation process, oppose a potential NFL stadium in our neighborhood, and, per conversations with many in the community, will work to mitigate our neighborhood’s growing rat problem as well as issues with current (as of Oct. 20, 2018) Airbnb (and similar services) regulations.
While these are my personal opinions on issues facing our neighborhood, I am seeking this office to be your advocate, not my own. My role as your representative in 6B05 is to hear and elevate your concerns. If elected, I promise I will put constituent input first—always.
That said: I want to hear from you! How can we improve our community? What do you want to see from your ANC representation? You can contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you, and whether or not you cast your vote for me November 6, I look forward to seeing you at the polls!
