The Hill is Home is sharing the statements of ANC candidates in our general region. Although the main focus of our blog is Capitol Hill –served by ANCs 6A through 6C– we feel that a community is made stronger by the neighbors with whom we share a close geographical area. We are honored to share candidate statements from neighbors from Ivy City to Navy Yard, with minor style edits. To all of you who are running: Thank you. –Maria Helena Carey and Kate McFadden

With its exponential growth, ANC6D demands a Commissioner who knows how to work with developers and DC agencies and in identifying and protecting available resources for citizens. ANC 6D05 needs a Commissioner who delivers and Roger Moffatt continues to do just that. Most recently, he negotiated a 6,000 square foot SW Community Center–a place for all, with Wi-Fi, areas to meet, telecommute, for classes, or just hang out at 375 M Street SW. Roger organized ANC committees to promote greater community involvement in the commission’s decision-making.

If reelected, Roger will create a Development Committee for ANC 6D05 to Foster even greater constituent engagement. Roger demanded and attained pet comfort zones in Buzzard Point to make for a clean Anacostia, Potomac, and Chesapeake Bay. Roger ensures bike parking, showers and lockers for bike-to-workers, and other public transport are available in new buildings. Roger secured commitment from developers to place a diner and a Black Box theatre in a planned building on Waterfront Station NE Parcel. This is getting what you in the community asked for, builds community camaraderie, creating a neighborhood venue for food and fun! Roger’s persistent testimony convinced Zoning to require 3BR units by builders, continually working to get what is right, a place to live in DC for families with 2 or more children. Roger works to limit the number of new on-street parkers (RPP) for new buildings to make sure that there is space to park and to give us fewer cars on an already over-parked and crowded peninsula, ensuring development plans actually address new traffic, and by promoting bicycle education and safety, he will continue championing your interests.

If you believe that experience is needed to deal with all of the changes taking place in our ANC, then vote for the one who delivers for YOU!  Vote for Roger Moffatt. Please share questions and comments via email: Moffatt@verizon.net
