We periodically share updates from your local single-member district ANCs. While you may not reside in the immediate geographical area represented by a particular ANC, there are always items of interest. We appreciate the hard work that our volunteer commissioners do. Are you an ANC who shares routine updates? Email us at info@thehillishome.com. –Maria Helena Carey and Kate McFadden

From Kirsten Oldenburg, ANC 6B04

August was relatively quiet on Capitol Hill.  My CH VCs graph reached 7 total incidents in August; the same number as in July. In August, there were no homicides or sex abuses reported in PSA 107 or PSA 108 and, within PSA 106, there were no violent crimes reported at all.  Six robberies occurred within PSA 107. Two of them involved guns and one a knife.  Five of them were in SE areas; one was in NE.  Two robberies were reported in PSA 108; both without the use of guns.

There were two ADWs (assault with dangerous weapon) reported; both occurred in PSA 107.  One occurred in SE, the other in NE Capitol Hill.  These monthly statistics do not include other types of assaults such as the one that happened to a woman near Marion Park in August.  See here for details.  At the 9/11 ANC meeting, Captain Knutsen, who heads up Sector 2 in MPD’s First District, said that detectives are investigating the case and had some forensic evidence to evaluate.  He also said MPD is looking for videos from house cameras of the area around the time of the incident to help them try to identify the perpetrator.

What continues to dominate all the numbers for each PSA are thefts and thefts from auto.  In PSA 107, for instance, these two crimes represent 86 percent of the total number of crimes reported in August (106).  The 33 thefts from auto were fairly evenly distributed throughout the PSA; while the 54 thefts were concentrated more in the SE portion of the PSA. Of the 54, 28 seem to have occurred at the CVS at 12th & Pennsylvania Ave, 7-11 on 8th or 7-11 in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.  Over 90 percent of the reported crimes in August (66) in PSA 106 were thefts and thefts from auto.

Reminder: Daily crimes and arrests are posted on the MPD 1D Yahoo Group along with supplementary information posted by MPD officers and info on guns recovered etc.

There is a PSA 106 meeting with Captain Pulliam scheduled for September 25, 7pm at the Community Center,  1000 5th Street SE.  Captain Knutsen has cancelled monthly meetings for Sector 2 (PSAs 104, 107, and 108) due to lack of interest and is substituting “walks” instead.  I am not sure how that information is distributed, though.
