We periodically share updates from your ANC commissioners, edited for brevity and clarity. Although these are most pertinent to particular single member districts (SMDs), we feel the information shared can be of interest to the whole Capitol Hill community. Are you an ANC commissioner who shares regular updates? Please add maria@thehillishome.com to your distribution list.–María Helena Carey

By and large, 2017 was a better year than 2016, based on a declining numerical count of crime incidents. This, of course, does not consider quality (or lack there of when talking crime). Still. here’s the big picture for the two PSAs and ANC 6B that I focus my excel data collection on. The file itself with all the data, including some for PSA 108, is attached per usual.
(Click here to see it: December 2017 Crime Reports –MHC)
PSA 106: # of Crime Reports
Total 28 in December vs. 48 in November
Average per month: 46 in 2017 and 56 in 2016
PSA 107: # of Crime Reports
Total 69 in December vs. 68 in November
Average per month: 78 in 2017 and 92 in 2016
ANC 6B: # of Crime Reports
Total 91 in December vs. 119 in November
Average per month: 111 in 2017 and 132 in 2016
My Capitol Hill Violent Crime (CH VCs) index in December totaled 6 for an annual average of 8.3. This compares with the December 2016 total of 10 and a 10.0 annual average. [VCs include homicides, sex abuse, robberies, and assaults]How about guns? PSA 106 and 107, combined, experienced 14 robberies robberies that involved guns in 2017 vs. 47 in 2016. For assaults, the same comparison is 9 vs. 12. For details on these data, consult the new chart on my attached file: 2017 Totals by Crime Type
