On The Hill:

Modern English is bringing the 80s British post-punk to DC once again. Their immediately recognizable hit, “I Melt With You,” topped charts around the world in the 80s and rocketed the band to success. The band’s most recent album, released just over a year ago, Take Me to the Trees, features four-fifths of the original lineup and received great reviews from fans everywhere. Come hang out at the Rock & Rotel Hotel on November 21. Get your tickets now.

Around DC:

Ask any rock fan and there’s a good chance they’ll tell you that Thrice is huge in rock music. The band has been an influence on so many bands since their formation nearly 20 years ago and they are still at it. Their newest album, To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere, earned them their highest chart position to date and rave reviews from fans everywhere. This is even more impressive considering the band was fresh off of their 3-year hiatus. I also did an interview with Thrice that you can find here with some insight on the band’s success, their writing process, and their involvement in charity. Catch Thrice on November 16 at the Fillmore Silver Spring. Buy your tickets here.

The Story So Far has been an incredible influence on the pop-punk scene since their formation in 2007. You could even argue that these guys are responsible for a “pop-punk revival” of sorts. The band’s authentic, DIY sound is refreshing and energetic with high-speed riffs, memorable hooks, and relatable lyrics. Although I have only seen them once –at Warped Tour– their onstage energy and passion for punk and hardcore are unbeatable. In a super-small venue like Black Cat, I can only imagine the craziness of the crowd. Don’t miss The Story So Far at Black Cat on November 17. Get your tickets here.
Bleachers is one of those indie pop acts where everyone knows at least one of their songs, even if they don’t really know who it is. Bleachers has infiltrated mainstream radio since their hit “I Wanna Get Better” blew up in 2014 and continue to make songs that everyone can dance along to. Bleachers is currently on tour supporting their third LP, Gone Now. This show has a stacked lineup featuring two powerhouse women Bishop Briggs and Amy Shark. Also, $1 from each ticket will be donated to The Ally Coalition so you can benefit a good cause and watch a great show. Don’t miss Bleachers on November 18 at 9:30 Club. Buy your tickets now.
Though you may not recognize the name Sheppard, you’ll definitely recognize their hit song “Geronimo” from a few years back. The song about following your dreams resonated with audiences around the world and earned the band six platinum titles in their home country of Australia, as well as sold-out shows around the world. The real challenge came with following up a worldwide hit, but the band has delivered with their recent singles. The songs have drawn fans back in with thier well-written lyrics and contagious harmonies. Check out Sheppard at U Street Music Hall on November 20. Get your tickets here.
DC101, DC’s Alternative Rock radio station is hosting the 2017 DC101 Office Party. This is no regular office holiday party filled with awkward conversation and bad Christmas sweaters. This show will feature music from The Lumineers, J. Roddy Walston and the Business, Joywave, and Barns Courtney. This event on November 29 at The Anthem is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season! Tickets are unfortunately sold out, but you can enter to win a pair of tickets here, courtesy of Mattress Warehouse.
