The Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival is Saturday

Tonight, go behind the scenes of the Folger’s Timon of Athens. The show’s director Robert Richmond will share his thought at a pre-performance talk at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. The talk is $20 and you can purchase tickets here. Timon of Athens is  Shakespeare’s take on the flightiness of prosperity. Poor Timon was a big man and very generous until his fortunes went south and then… where were his friends? This production runs through June 11th. You can purchase tickets here.

Learn how the SAUSAGE gets made for real tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hill Center. Chef Mark Haskell will teach you about several styles of sausages while you enjoy samples and snacks and beverages. The class costs $59 and you can register here.

Friday is Paint ‘N Sip at CHAW. Bring a friend and you both will leave with canvases created by you (with some professional help) and enjoy snacks and wine while you work. $30 fee includes snacks and materials. Call (202) 547-6839 for more information or to register.

Saturday is the monthly book sale at the Southeast library (403 7th St. SE) The sale begins around 10:00 a.m. (give or take) and ends a few minutes before 3 p.m. Entrance to the sale is through the library (and down the stairs) or through the basement door on the D street side

The annual Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival is Saturday. Gates open at 11:30 and ticket holders can stay all day and enjoy music on multiple stages throughout the island. Beer and BBQ will be available for the patient, long lines are expected but this is DC and we are line-waiting pros. Get your tickets in advance here.

Sunday is Mother’s Day so take her to the Atlas for a production of Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche. Moms love quiche! Monumental Theatre presents this comedy about some ladies and their annual quick breakfast. Want tickets? Click through here.

The annual Day of the Dog at Congressional Cemetery will take on a new schedule due to Mother Nature. The 5K will proceed as planned on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The big celebration of our four-legged friends will be held on SUNDAY from 10am-3pm with vendors and food trucks and fun. All leashed dogs are welcome, even those not a part of the cemetery’s K9 corps. Learn more and register for the race here.
