This one is for all the artistes manqués out there: If you live close to the Little Free Libraries at 803 East Capitol Street, SE, 1229 Massachusetts Avenue SE or 909 F Street NE, go check them as soon as you can. Local artist Beth Baldwin started a project today called Capitol Hill Creates. The purpose of the project is to encourage Capitol Hill residents,”to sketch, draw, paint, decoupage,.. on the pages.” Beth encourages people to take advantage of the book, one page at a time. After all three books are filled, she hopes to exhibit the creativity inside the books at one of our local art galleries.
When I asked her what her motivation was behind the project, Beth said she admired the Little Free Library community and had wanted to integrate art into the book upcycling somehow. In her view, adults continuing to explore and nurture their creativity is important. Many of us give up too quickly or don’t explore other media or options when it comes to art, so participating in this could be your chance to have a little fun with a fun group project.
If you want to add your vision to one of the books, make sure you follow the project on Twitter or Instagram, both @CapHillCreates, or through Beth’s personal account, @tigerflight.
Good luck and have fun creating!
