Friday, January 6 – Friday ARTnights: Drop-In Figure Drawing – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) hosts a drop-in “Working from the Figure” session on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at CHAW, 545 7th Street, SE. Work on drawings or paintings in front of a live model in a session without formal instruction, facilitated by artist Will Fleishell. Please bring your own drawing materials. Easels are available. Friday, January 6 – New Friday ARTnights: Mind-Magic and Merlot – World class TV Mentalist, Alain Nu, The Man Who Knows™, proudly presents his new monthly workshop: Mind, Magic and Merlot. Held in the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop’s (CHAW’s) upper dance studio, this workshop is part performance, part instruction of the mystic arts, and all magically fun—with complimentary Merlot wine available until supplies run out. Saturday, January 7 – Registration Kick-Off Event: Dance Party, Singalong, Open Art Studio, Adult Flower Arranging, and NSO In Your Neighborhood – Join Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) for an exciting NEW addition to its yearly events: a registration kickoff event full of friends from the CHAW orbit offering all kinds of fun, open-house arts opportunities. Adult Flower Arranging Workshop – This fun, relaxed workshop is open to all levels—no experience needed! You’ll learn all about arranging techniques from teaching artist Meredith Wallace. Originally from Montana, Meredith E.S Wallace is an amateur florist living and working in Washington, DC. She works in international power development by day but for the past few years all of her free time has been spent learning about flowers and designing arrangements for friends and family. $40 includes all materials plus a vase and shears to keep. Wednesday, January 11 – Signs of the Times: Stencil Workshop with Artist Kate DeCiccio – Got something to say? Develop your message, explore fonts, and use pattern to make beautiful signs made from hand-cut stencils that are sure to pack a punch. Whether you’re preparing for a march or want to put a message in your window, stencil is a great medium to create clean and bold text that help you to express yourself. This workshop, like all classes at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, is a safe space for all people of all races, religious beliefs, sexuality, and gender identities. The workshop takes place 6:30pm-9pm at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St. SE. The workshop will be drop-in, so feel free to come for as much or as little time as you like (suggested $5 donation—proceeds go to CHAW’s Tuition Assistance Program); open to ages 10 – adult (Participants ages 10 – 12 should bring an adult with them). Friday, January 13 – Friday ARTnights: Paint & Sip – Join the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) for Paint and Sip, part of CHAW’s popular Friday ARTnights program, for an evening of painting and wine on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at CHAW, 545 7th Street, SE. Receive step-by-step instruction from CHAW teaching artists Ellen Cornett and Sheppard Bear as you create your own masterpiece, all while enjoying snacks and wine. $30 includes all materials and refreshments. Saturday, January 14 – Gallery Show Opening: CHAL Presents “Artist’s Choice” – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is proud to present Capitol Hill Art League’s kickoff show in 2017, a juried exhibit for member artists, “Artist’s Choice.” The opening will take place 5:00pm-7:00pm on Saturday, January 14 at CHAW, 545 7th St. SE, and is free and open to the public—including wine, cheese, and conversation with the artists. General gallery hours are: 9:30 am–9:00 pm (M-Th), 9:30 am–6:00 pm (F), and 9:00 am–2:00 pm (Sat). Gallery is free and open to the public. The exhibit will run until February 1 in the Gallery. Friday, January 20 – Juggling Workshop with Christian Kloc – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is excited that this juggling workshop with Christian Kloc is back, by popular demand. Throw caution to the weekend! Conquer the thrilling challenge of juggling with veteran juggler Christian Kloc. This workshop begins with a short demo, moves into some goofy warm-ups, then puts juggling props in your hands and offers pro tips to jump-start your newfound circus habit. After practicing controlled chaos, put on a show with your fellow jugglers and get the ‘big top’ applause you deserve
All ages are welcome. Equipment is provided. Wear comfortable clothes that allow relaxed movements. The workshop will take place 6:00pm-7:30pm on Friday, January 20 at CHAW, 545 7th St. SE, and is open to all experience levels. Friday, January 20 – An Evening with Bashville: Women Swearing-In Music – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is thrilled to host Bashville From Nashville: two girls, seven instruments, and a lot of banter. A night to come together to help support Toledo, Nashville, and DC women’s advocate nonprofit groups, this concert will take place on Friday, January 20 in CHAW’s accolade-winning black box theatre, 8:30pm-9:30pm (doors at 8pm). More information: Bashville Music/Bashtivism: Lucciana Costa and Rachel Coats from SE Michigan and NW Ohio, currently residing in Nashville, TN, are music educators, performers, and philanthropists who travel the country performing original and cover music ranging from piano pop to guitar folk and country.

Classes begin with a children’s story based on an artist’s life or a book that will help introduce the day’s project and techniques. One main guided project will be based on the story and appeal to a range of ages. Additional exploration stations will be set up to complement the main project.
