Elections:

Meet the Candidates: Stephanie Zimny ANC 6A06

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

UntitledThe Northeast Capitol Hill neighborhood is an area rich in historic significance with a community of residents that makes it a truly special place to call home. There are a number of critical issues affecting the residents of the area including development, safety, litter reduction, and parking issues. Addressing the opportunities and challenges surrounding these and other important issues is the job of the ANC Commissioner.

As a resident and homeowner in the area, I have been honored to represent my fellow neighbors as the Commissioner for the Single Member District of 6A06 for the last two years.

During my time as Commissioner, I have worked with neighbors, developers, and the city council on a wide variety of issues that have affected residents. I am running for a second term to continue the progress that has been made.

I have made constituent services a priority during my two years as Commissioner. As former ANC 6A06 Commissioner Andrew Hysell stated, “Having a Commissioner that stays on top of local issues that matter to the community is invaluable. The fact that Stephanie works this hard, as a volunteer, in the face of DC agencies that don’t always prioritize our interest in huge, and something that I don’t take for granted.”

As a resident of Single Member District ANC 6A06, I’ve seen firsthand how important our ANC is to the community. I have worked extensively with The Department of Public Works to ensure that trash is consistently collected and our alleys are clean. I work with developers to make sure that properties are maintained and new developments fit the character of the community. I work with our local school by volunteering in the school garden, testifying before the Chancellor of DC Schools to ensure that children have adequate resources, and consistently advocate on behalf of the parent community.

I also serve on the Economic Development and Zoning Committee (EDZ). My experience on the EDZ Committee allows me to stay up to date on the latest developments in our area and to work with developers to advocate for the best interests of our neighborhood. Our local school is an invaluable resource to our parents and the community as a whole. I’m pleased to serve on the Miner Elementary School Local School Advisory Team to be a part of the excellent community of parents and teachers that work so hard to make the school a place that all parents will want to send their children.

I am knowledgeable on the breadth of issues facing our neighborhood, and I will continue to work hard for our community in the same thoughtful and collaborative fashion that I employed over the past two years.

I am honored to have the endorsements of Council Member Charles Allen, Former ANC 6A06 Commissioner Andrew Hysell, and Greater Greater Washington.
