The following email and attached ANC 6C03 comments regarding the project were shared by ANC 6C03 commissioner Scott Price the day after the August 10, 2016, meeting about the Maryland Avenue Project.

This multi-year effort has had as its ongoing aim to reduce the speed and volume of traffic along the Maryland Avenue, NE, corridor –from 2nd to 14th Streets NE. The latest meeting took place last week and evaluated the progress achieved as well as the ongoing concerns at key intersections. The draft notes from the meeting can be accessed by clicking here, and included after Scott’s letter down below. (MHC)

Friends,

More than 100 people attended the meeting in the NE Library about the MD Ave project.  This was great turn-out — thanks for taking time to attend and for sharing your thoughts.  I am grateful for the work of people who arranged the details of the meeting — Phil Toomajian, Todd Hettenbach, Beth Bacon, Gary Barbour, Laura Marks — and for the folks who in this summer’s heat distributed flyers to inform our neighbors about the meeting — Meg Maguire, Sue Sprenke, Nancy Erickson, Rich Tindall,  Warren Friedman,  Bob McKeon.
Attached is an update to my draft comments about the MD Ave design based on the information I received yesterday.  The new / changed material is in bold type.  If any of you has additional recommendations, please send them to me by noon Saturday August 13.  If you can’t cite the chart you are referring to, at least please be specific about the intersection or location in a block.

More of you have sent me emails expressing your continuing support for this project than I can respond to — so this is a collective “thank you” for your enthusiasm.

Some people expressed frustration yesterday that this was their first introduction to the project and they had many unanswered questions. We can’t guarantee everybody is informed about every change in our community, but we should always try to do better. If there is anything y’all think I can do to improve my outreach, please advise.

Also y’all might consider sharing your neighborhood email lists with me periodically (e.g., every 6 months). I always send my emails with blind copy so I won’t expose anybody’s email address. However I suspect someone who moves into our community is more likely to engage with his/her immediate neighbors than with me, so I will appreciate your help to ensure the ANC6C03 information reaches as many people as possible.  It is easy for me to know when somebody leaves our community (since I get bounce-back to my email)  but much more difficult to engage people who newly join our community.  Thanks for whatever help you can lend.

Thanks,
Scott Price, Commissioner ANC6C03
