Spring Cleanup AND Yard Sale? Yes please!

Whatever you were planning on doing this Saturday morning, I have a better plan for you: Go help beautify Sherwood Recreation Center‘s grounds, 640 10th Street NE. If you show up with your best game face –and a willingness to keep this beautiful community space looking spiffy– you will be treated to lunch, donated by beloved restaurant, meeting place, phoenix The Argonaut. Every spring and fall, the Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers rally the community together and make sure the park is looking its best. If you want to become part of this organization, you can go to their website, https://sherwoodvolunteers.wordpress.com or you can follow them on Facebook. They were an instrumental part in helping design the beautiful playground at Sherwood, which is shared with School Within School, 920 F Street NE.

Coincidentally, SWS (where, full disclosure, my children attend) is having a yard sale that day, which will benefit FoodPrints –a program at several DC public schools that integrates nutrition education with cooking and food production, and gives kids appreciation for food and how it comes to your table. It also turns kids into little kale eaters. YES. AMAZEMENT.

If you help out the Sherwood Volunteers, you can reward yourself with a little shopping, which will in turn benefit students in your neighborhood: What could be better?

WHAT: Sherwood Recreation Center’s Spring Cleanup AND School Within School’s Yard Sale to benefit FoodPrints

WHEN: Saturday May 21, 2016. The Yard Sale starts at 8 am; the Cleanup, at 9 am. Both are over by 1 pm.

WHERE: the 900 block of F and G Streets NE, between 9th and 10th Streets NE. Seriously. You can’t miss a school, a recreation center and a playground.

WHY: Fun, stewardship, camaraderie, shopping, free food? YAY!
