Okay, so it’s been over a week since the Villanova Wildcats captured college basketball glory and made the North Carolina Tar Heels go back home in tears. But honestly, how many of you were totally invested in that game when your neighborhood watering holes have so much at stake– chief among these, the HONOR and the GLORY of being declared Capitol Hill’s Most Beloved Watering Hole EVER.* Sure we’re just a smidgen late, but look! We’re here for you!
Without further ado, two bars stand in direct competition: UNION PUB, the beloved hangout close to Union Station where you can count on an animated crowd for watching games, and BARREL, the plucky upstart that’s been around for just shy of two years but whose delightful bourbon-related offerings have made it an obvious new favorite. Who will win? Will the veteran assert itself and claim the crown that has eluded it lo these many year? Or will the youthful upstart wrest the laurel crown from the old-timer’s gnarled grasp and declare itself the victor over our hearts, stomachs and –obvi– livers?
