Here at The Hill is Home we were very sad to hear that Fred Berger, dad to Nathan Berger of Beuchert’s Saloon, passed away in April. Fred died of pancreatic cancer, a particularly painful and devastating type of cancer with very low survival rates. (You can learn more about pancreatic cancer by clicking here.) In as much pain as the family finds itself, they have decided to turn their pain into something meaningful and proactive: this Saturday June 13, they will be participating in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleStride 5k  at Freedom Plaza, and they would love for as many Capitol Hill friends as possible to help them out.

You can help out in two ways:
You can join teamBERGER on Saturday’s walk, by clicking this link: http://purplestride.kintera.org/dc/teamberger (There will be brunch to follow at Beuchert’s Saloon!)

If you’re not the “exercise” type, you can make a donation in Fred’s memory. For that you can go to this link and click “Give Now” in the upper right-hand corner:  http://tinyurl.com/Fredpancan

We send loving thoughts to the Berger family. Thank you for being a great part of the Capitol Hill community, and for your strong spirit and generosity.
