This is a public service announcement: if you’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Garrett Peck or picking up a copy of one of his books, you are seriously missing out. Luckily for us on the Hill, he will be coming to the Congressional Cemetery chapel tomorrow, June 2 at 7 p.m., to talk about –what else?– his latest book: “Walt Whitman in Washington, D.C.: The Civil War and America’s Great Poet.”

Garrett has authored books on subjects as varied and dear to the DC heart as booze and the Potomac river. His latest book explores Whitman’s relationship with the city and the Civil War on the 150th anniversary of its culmination.

Come listen to Peck as he talks about Whitman, the poet’s boyfriend –who is buried at Congressional Cemetery–and, of course, his new book. A suggested $5 donation includes wine, cheese, and a great evening at a gem of a landmark. You can purchase a copy of “Walt Whitman in Washington, D.C.” at the event.

RSVP strongly recommended, as the chapel is small: you can do so through the event’s Facebook page.
