Valentine’s Day at Union Market and on Barracks Row

Whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, there are events galore this weekend for couples and singles alike. And it’s the weekend, so why not show some love to your neighborhood with some local shopping and dining?

Barracks Row Main Street will be setting up a photo booth from 6:30-10:30pm on Saturday on the 500 block between Lavagna and Matchbox. Stop by for pictures with your Valentine, your friends or your furry loved one (there’s no shame in calling your cat or dog your Valentine…they love you unconditionally, after all.) The photos are free thanks to the sponsorship  Banana Cafe, Belga Cafe, Cava Mezze, Matchbox, Medium Rare, Lavagna, Rose’s Luxury, and Trattoria Alberto.

Over at Union Market, it seems like all of the vendors are getting into the spirit:

WE HEART CHEESE, CHOCOLATE & BALLER BUBBLY:

What: Righteous Cheese is teaming up with CoCo Sala and weekend pop-up Fatty Sundays for an intimate, two-night champagne, cheese and chocolate tasting. Righteous Cheese founder and Fromager Carolyn Stromberg will be on hand to delve into the story behind each cheese and its unique champagne and chocolate pairing. Tickets must be purchased in advance HERE.
When: Friday, February 13 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.and Saturday, February 14 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Price: Session I $69 Session II $78. Seating is limited to 30 attendees.

LOVE BOARD FLIGHTS @ BUFFALO & BERGEN:

What: Enjoy a Sweetheart’s Old Fashioned Board for two this Valentine’s Day. Four full-sized cocktails are included in the flight, transporting market-goers through the story of most relationships – starting with light and breezy, transitioning to fiery and passionate, adding a little bitter and finishing with lasting sweetness. Flights will be served on a keepsake wooden plank that couples, lovers or friends can sign and take home at the end of the journey. Reservations must be made in advance at202-543-2549. Credit Card is required at time of the reservation.
When: Saturday, February 14 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Price: $40 exclusive of tax and gratuity.

FREE HEART OPENING YOGA WORKSHOP:

What: Union Market’s unique Dock 5 space will transform into a Chakra Heart Opening workshop, hosted by Nya Alemayhu of “Yoga With Nya”. Students should arrive 15 minutes prior to class and are advised to bring their own mats and blocks.
When: Sunday, February 15 at 12 p.m to 1:30 p.m.
Price: While the class is free and open to all, a $5 donation is encouraged.

WEEKEND POP-UPS:

  • Blue Iris Flowers: A pop-up flower shop just in time for Valentine’s Day. The pop-up is open from Friday, February 13 to Sunday, February 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fatty Sundays: A decorated, chocolate-covered pretzel pop-up offering PB&J, Salty Toffee and Birthday Cake pretzel rods, crunchy pretzel brittle, dipped strawberry licorice and more. Sweet tooth patrons will also have the option of making their own pretzel creations with the DIY Pretzel Dipping Station, available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
