Tonight Hill’s Kitchen hosts a “Sip and Shop” event benefiting Share Our Strength DC. From 6pm to 8pm the store will highlight a selection of seven beloved Capitol Hill restaurateurs’ favorite items and will generously donate twenty percent of the event’s revenue to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America. Browsers can enjoy mocktails and cheese from Hank’s Oyster Bar and Sona Creamery and will be able to purchase discounted tickets to the April 13th Taste of the Nation DC.
At the Hill Center Youth Development expert Joshua Wayne conducts a parenting workshop on Teens and Tech aiming to assist parents in setting limits for their kids and screens. I hope he gives tips on negotiating with these totally unreasonable people because seriously TEENS ARE REALLY AS BAD AS THEY TELL YOU. Sigh. The program is free and you can register here. Friday night at CHAW Taffety Punk presents Riots Grrrls Shakespeare: The Tempest. The all-women cast takes on the story of an banished Duke Prospero and his daughter. Taffety Punk devotes one production a year to these all-female productions and they are an excellent opportunity to watch fabulous local actresses take on some of the theatre’s juiciest roles. The show runs through February 28th and tickets are $15.
Start your Saturday with delicious carbs at the annual Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast. Attendees will enjoy four kinds of pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, coffee, tea, hot cocoa and milk, with unlimited seconds. Donation is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The breakfast will be held at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, 4th Street and Independence Ave., S.E.
Continue the carb-focus at DC Brau Brewery at CHAW and Brau. The usual brewery tours and tastings wll be supplemented by the CHAWsome Valentine’s Photo Booth, musical performances, and a raffle. The brewery is located at 3178-B Bladensburg Rd., NE, Washington, DC 20018. All are welcome but the tastings are for 21 and over.
Sunday is a chance to learn something useful at Sip & Sew at the Anacostia Arts Center. Two local seamstresses, Cecily S. Habimana (Simply Cecily) and Tisha Thorne (Tisha Sewing Studio) will teach basic skills and each participant will complete a project while enjoying mimosas. $45 for the class ($80 if you register for the next one March 28th.)
