Opening Tuesday on Barracks Row: Souk

DSC_0012Barracks Row’s newest retail space is opening on Tuesday with spices, baked goods, and gifts from around the world. Souk is the newest concept by Winnette McIntosh Ambrose, owner of The Sweet Lobby. She wanted to bring her love for flavors from around the world to the neighborhood and combine them with her love of baking.

The store features a large wall of exotic spices that you are not likely to find easily elsewhere. One guest at last night’s preview was delighted to find Hawaiian black salt, which he hasn’t seen anywhere is DC. A smaller display will have a selection of spices to sample if you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for. Or if you just enjoy smelling exotic spices.

In addition to the large spice selection, Souk will carry food-themed gifts from around the world, such as platters and bowls. They will also carry cocktail mixes, baking chocolates and more. The signature item is spiced biscuits in sweet and savory flavors.

Souk opens Tuesday, February 10 and is located at 705 8th Street SE.
