It’s a delight to walk down the street kicking the crunchy leaves, isn’t it? Well, track them in your house enough and watch them turn to sludge in the alleys and it’s thrilling to see the Department of Public Works provides a leaf pickup service get busy with their blowers and rakes each autumn. Aparently the yearly schedule went out in last few weeks but it hasn’t yet arrived at my house. Those of you in Northeast side of the Hill need to get busy! According the schedule, leaf collection starts today and runs through November 15. The brochure says the crews pick up leaves that have been raked into the tree boxes. Given that raked leaves are likely to blow every which way once raked, the teams generally give the sidewalks a complete sweep. The trucks could certainly arrive today, but my experience is that the pick-ups often happen later in the week. There’s another pick-up in Northeast December 1-13. Southeast pick-ups are scheduled for November 17-29, and then again December 15-27.
