This is Alison Marriott’s first guest post for THIH. Alison blogs regularly about good wine and good food at Bon Vivant DC. She will be sharing tips, tricks, and other fun wine-related information from Capitol Hill and beyond with us. (–MHC)
One of my favorite things about living on Capitol Hill is the explosion of great food and wine over the last several years. I’ve been living in Eastern Market since 2008, and have greatly enjoyed exploring the local food scene and getting to know our local small business owners.
One of my favorite perks of living on the hill is the sense of community these small businesses lend to our village within a city. There’s just something great about being greeted by name at my favorite local haunts.
No matter what corner of the Hill you call home, there are a number of superb small businesses that feature weekly (FREE!) wine tastings. Often, the wine producers themselves are even there answering questions!
So the next time you find yourself in a wine rut, give one of these tastings a try. You just may find your next tried and true!

Congrats THIH and Alison on the guest post! I’ve walked by Harry’s a number of times, but I’ve never actually gone in. Now I have a good excuse (as if buying wine wasn’t excuse enough).
