It is the official end of summer this weekend. Do you have plans for one last beach weekend? Lucky.

If you are stuck in town like me, here are a few ideas of how to say goodbye to summer in style.

Tonight, night check out one of the three plays running over at the Atlas. Live theatre is the perfect way to welcome fall! Rorshach Theatre’s D & D homage She Kills Monsters has been getting raves, while the ambitious SCENA Theatre has two shows running at the same time; Shining City by Conor McPherson and the new play Molly by George O’Brien.

Saturday, celebrate Day of the Dog at Congressional Cemetery. Typically only those four-legged members of the Cemetery’s Canine Corps are allowed but they open admission to all leashed pups for this festival.  Activities will include the 2K9 dog costume contest, a trick contest, bobbing for hot dogs, an obstacle course, and pet portraits provided by artist Erin Murray. If you think Rex is up for some competition you can sign up for contests in advance at: (http://hccemetery.wix.com/dayofthedog).  Admission is free for all creatures. There will be beer from Atlas Brew Works and Port City Brewing available and entertainment by New Wave Jukebox.

Saturday and Sunday, the Electric Run takes place at RFK Stadium. It looks like an mash-up of an actual athletic event (5k run) combined with a rave. Proceeds form these runs, which take place all over the world, go to support efforts by the ONE Campaign. Have fun kids and please don’t relieve yourself in front of anyone’s home.

Adios, summer 2014!
