Tonight Step Afrika! begins another two-week run of it’s Magical, Musical Holiday Step Show at the Atlas. If you are over the sugary Nutcrackers and humbuggy Christmas Carols then this fun, high-energy troupe may be just the holiday treat for you. Tickets are $15-$38.50 and are available here.

Friday night the Hill Center continues the Tough Dames in Satin Slips series of Pre-Hayes code films with the James Cagney classic Public Enemy. The film is best known for the scene where Cagney shoves a grapefruit in Mae Clarke ‘s face, also featured Jean Harlow in a minor role. The New York Herald Tribune critic called it “the most ruthless, unsentimental appraisal of the meanness of a petty killer that the cinema has yet devised.” This was of course pre-Goodfellas but still… The screening is free and begins at 7pm. Saturday the Southeast Library hosts its monthly booksale which features a variety of books at the low,,low price of $1 ($2 for coffee table style books.) The Southeast Library is at 403 7th St. S.E., Washington, DC 20003, right across from the Eastern Market Metro. The sale begins at 10 am and ends at 3 pm.
Saturday is the final day of the Art Takeover of the Yards Park. The former NGA Building at The Yards (M St SE at New Jersey St SE) has been transformed into public art as part of an ambitious project called Art Yards. Sunday bring your tiny friends to the Atlas for Drumming With Dishes: Holiday Edition. Part of the Atlas’ Theatre for the Very Young series of theatre pieces designed for audiences 5 and UNDER, this show is a delightful, gentle non-verbal tale of imagination with a holiday spin.
