Give a Gift for #GivingTuesday

givingtuesdayThe Hill is awesome.  We all know that.  But if you think its just the quaint streets and great restaurants and shops that make it that way, then look a little deeper.

There are so many nonprofits whose work in and contribution to the community go a long way toward making the Hill the enriching place that it is.  So take a moment, now that you’ve finished your Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday shopping, to give a gift to your favorite nonprofit on Giving Tuesday, especially those in the neighborhood.

Does Giving Tuesday really make a difference?  Yes!  This is the second year of the nationwide initiative and last year’s results were amazing.  Two of the larger processors of online donations (Blackbaud and DonorPerfect) recorded an average increase of 50% in donations compared to the prior year, before the launch of Giving Tuesday.  DonorPerfect also saw their average gift increase by 25%.

Here are just a few local nonprofits with Giving Tuesday campaigns.  Please feel free to recommend other Hill nonprofits in the comments.  There are so many in the neighborhood that do amazing work!

Hands on DC: for their volunteer work-a-thons at local schools.

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop: support their scholarship program which ensures every child can take classes, regardless of ability to pay.

The Atlas Performing Arts Center:  in support of their arts and educational programming.

– The Hill Center:  for their educational and community programming.

Folger Shakespeare Library:  for their arts and community programming.

Capitol Hill Community Foundation: to fund their grants to local schools and organizations.

Capitol Hill Group Ministry: for their work serving the homeless and low-income households.

Congressional Cemetery:  for their community programming.

What other Hill nonprofits do you think do great work?
