On Friday, November 1st, the Atlas Performing Arts Center threw a wonderful gala, called Atlas Underground. It was an amazing aural and culinary smorgasbord, with excellent bands ranging from the frenetic energy of Balkan Gypsy band Balti Mare to the impossible-to-listen-to-whilst-standing-still West African sounds of Cheick Hamala Diabaté and his band. As if that were not enough –eight bands!– the food offerings were great: catering was provided by Boundary Road, Smith Commons, Toki Underground, and Dr. Granville Moore’s. (I am still hoping to see the vegan option at the restaurant sometime!)
