Yes! Organic Market Moving to Barracks Row

A morning rumor has been confirmed — Yes! Organic Market will be relocating to the old Blockbuster/Erol’s Video location on Barracks Row.  Jos A. Bank was rumored to be the new tenant of the space, but official word never came through, and now it looks as though Yes! has sealed a deal.

Yes! has been looking to move from their current location on the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for some time as it lacked the space they need as they expand.  They hope to have the new location open by late spring or early summer.

From Barracks Row Main Street:

Yes! Organic Market announced today that they are relocating from their current Capitol Hill location at 658 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE to the former Blockbuster Video space on Barracks Row at 410 8th Street, Southeast.

Blockbuster vacated this location (and the District as a whole; this was the final DC store to close) as part of a larger corporate downsizing in the summer of 2011 amid rumors about multiple different retailers and service uses that may have been interested in the space. BRMS is thrilled to finally have confirmation that a lease has been signed and permits are in progress for Yes! Organic Market planning to open in the space. Yes! Organic Market will bring even better foot traffic to the street, and will encourage Capitol Hill residents on their way home from the nearby Eastern Market Metro stop to venture down to Barracks Row to pick up fresh foods for dinner that evening and to make Barracks Row a destination for weekly food shopping, and hopefully also lead them to continue down the street to patronize other popular businesses.

Please join us in welcoming Yes! Organic Market to Barracks Row. This longtime asset to our community and future asset to our corridor will be opening in late spring / early summer of 2012.

i’m so happy. this is right on my walk home from work. can’t wait to be able to swing in to buy something remotely healthy to take home and cook dinner. then, of course, once Chipolte opens, I may become too lazy to even cook. Either way, I”m a happy Barracks Row neighbor.
