The To Do List

Hello everyone! This is a wee belated, but here are a few fun things to do during your Veterans Day weekend. Incidentally, can we talk apostrophes for a second? Yes.. it’s all about that elusive styling of Veterans Day: it’s best to write it WITHOUT an apostrophe, because then the day is for all Veterans. To read an interesting piece discussing the apostrophe on Veterans Day, click here.
Now let’s dig up a few things for you guys to do, shall we?
Apart from getting FREE cupcakes this afternoon at Hello Cupcake, how about some beautiful music? Get thee to the Atlas tonight at 8 pm to hear the nationally recognized Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble. The New Music Ensemble has received numerous accolades and is dedicated to bringing audiences the most significant music of our time. “Founded in 2006 by its director Bill Ryan… the ensemble performs an incredible variety of music, which make their concerts stimulating, entertaining and unpredictable.” AND FREE! The Atlas Performing Arts Center is at 1333 H Street, NE.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and many of you may be stuck with the kiddies and scrambling for something to do. Well, it so happens that the Boogie Babes will be at the Atlas on Friday at 10:30 am, $5 per child. And since you will have earned it, make sure you get yourself to Marvelous Market from 5-7 pm and go sample three Argentinean wines FOR FREE!

If you missed Give 2 The Max day yesterday, you can spend Saturday or Sunday doing good: Kyra wrote last week about the worthwhile Destination Abricots, taking place at several locations this weekend!
Also this weekend, why not get a head start on Holiday shopping, also for a good cause? There will be a benefit sale this weekend at Triangle Park– A Street and North Carolina Avenue, NE. There is a lot of holiday decorations, lights, toys, and it is all new with labels and store wrapping.  You can get all of your shopping done in one go and help out Maury Elementary!

Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend and may you have at least one explosive conversation about what it means to be a Veteran!

Edited to add: How could we have forgotten? Have you gotten your tickets to the Hilly Awards yet? It’s going to be an amazing party at the Atlas on Sunday, starting at 6 pm! Go get tickets while there is still time at their website, CHAMPSDC.org!

Don’t forget that the Marine Corps Band will be part of the Veterans Day Ceremony at Folger Park across from Brent Elementary. They play each year and it is a great thing to take the kids to. Honor our vets and entertain the kids!

Also, if you did miss Give to the Max, you can still give here to the wonderful CHAW project that will create an animal alphabet walking tour of Capitol Hill. http://give2max.razoo.com/story/Chaw

  2. Thank you so much, Ivan!
