Yes, it’s Wednesday. But you know what’s giving me much mirth to blow over the mid-week blahs? An old Elvis movie on Turner Movie Classics — who knew? And because this is a DC blog, I cannot just tell you that you should tune in to TCM and watch yourself one, too, without somehow making it relevant (or at least somewhat relevant).
So, did you know that Elvis asked for a special meeting with President Nixon back in 1970? On December 21, he wrote and hand-delivered a letter to the White House, and was granted a meeting later the same day. He wanted to be made a “Federal Agent-at-Large.” Elvis wanted to give back to the country and help fight the war on drugs, but apparently not much came out of the meeting except for some pretty cool photo-ops. If you want to learn more about this odd bit of history, click on the National Archives online exhibit!
Now, let’s watch ourselves a little Elvis singin’ action, shall we? Happy Wednesday!
PS: Who wears short shorts? Apparently, everybody.
