Monday Morning Circle Time

Morning all, I really do hope you had fantastic weekends.  A weekend free from the news perhaps? I know it’s not very mature of me but weeks like this past one fill me with a desire to watch cartoons and ride roller coasters and totally ignore what the grown ups are talking about.

It’s really not all that hard to avoid the news. Even in DC. Just hide all your Facebook friends who insist on discussing messy politics and posting articles.

Kitty videos and quizzes? Yes please. Well at least until school starts. I promise to begin considering our nation’s credit rating one the kiddos are back in school. For now we’ll blow bubbles and do cannon balls off the diving board.

So. What did you do this weekend?

Nichole: Spent the weekend visiting an old friend in Cape May. Lots of sun, sea, salt and beer. Meandered back to DC Sunday night via the Cape May-Lewes Ferry just to put off getting back to the real world a little bit longer. Unfortunately, I don’t think this quick trip has cured the nasty case of Urban Fatigue Syndrome I seem to have.

Maria: Had an uneventful weekend.  At least, that’s how she will try to remember it.

Jen: Friday we returned to our Friday pizza/movie night ritual, which involved pizza purchases from two Hill establishments. (Pizzeria Uno at Union Station serves a Gluten Free pizza that my celiac kid will eat. The rest of don’t want to eat Uno’s so it gets complicated.) Saturday we jumped in the car and headed to Skyline Drive and hiked. Then we headed to our college town and ate frozen custard for dinner before we headed home. Sunday was errands followed by a much needed Bikram class during a thunder storm.

Elizabeth: Had a nice walk and talk and shared lime-y drinks with MHC  at the lovely  and cool Senart’s bar, went to a fun 4 year-old birthday party at Yard’s Park, which was the perfect venue for the kids and adults on such a hot, muggy day, and mosied around the Eastern Market flea market, sampled vendors’  wares, visited an old gardening friend at home, and took care of household  thing before leaving to splash in a Shenandoah lake Sunday evening as thunderstorms hovered above, glowered at us,  thought twice, and then breezed on by.  Oh, an played countless versions of You are my Sunshine Oh My Darling Clementine performances (a spooky animated version on YouTube is the favorite) for the little girl, who is smitten with folk songs and June and Johnny Cash.  Please don’t take my sunshine away.

Lauren: Traveled to Philly on Saturday to attend the wedding of two college pals and then caught up with an old coworker/friend for a delicious brunch before hitting the road on Sunday. Later wandered down to 8th St for a (Hello) cupcake.

Jon: Friday evening I had a dinner date with my daughter.  We got pizza at Matchbox, frozen yogurt at 32Below, and then enjoyed the concert at the Yard Park. We attended a wedding on Saturday. The reception was very interactive – it included a zip line, volleyball courts, and a sanctioned water-gun game. And soft-serve ice cream.  Sunday included
yard work, lunch from Taylor Gourmet, and errands in Virginia.
