In August the Blockbuster on the 400 block of 8th Street will close its doors, which has led to a number of suggestions for what should fill the empty space. Barracks Row Main Street asked its Twitter and Facebook followers for suggestions, which ranged from Trader Joe’s (is that space really larger enough for that?!) to a high-end butcher, to City Sports or other retail. Suggestions were also split on whether or not to bring in a larger retailer or split the space to allow for two smaller retailers.
I am partial to the idea of a solid retail store, especially one that can be a more of a draw than our boutique retailers can be on their own. That block gets the most foot traffic of any on 8th Street, and that store front is one of the largest to open up in some time, so this does seem to create more possibilities than we’ve had in the past. I would personally love an Ann Taylor, a Gap, a City Sports, or something along those lines. What would you like to see? We have some general categories in our poll but please be more specific with your ideas in the comments!

I think they may have already signed a tenant, but they are not saying who. It has been described as “national” whatever that means.
I know they have been in talks with a few places. I am excited to see what ends up there!
Someone could make a killing with a reasonably priced kids clothing store on Barracks Row. Stock the place with Carters-type clothes and save us from the drive out to Target. The options on 7th St are too high end for run-of-the-mill purchases. I don’t think adult clothing stories would be a good model unless you had a couple of different options along the same strip whose variety could draw customers from outside of the area.
We all know it’s gonna become a restaurant. If they really have a single “national” tenant for such a large space, say hello to Cheesecake Factory/Macaroni Grill/Fuddruckers/etc.
