A Lively Group for the Inaugural Dead Man's Run

Yesterday, Congressional Cemetery held its inaugural Dead Man’s Run 5k, which snaked around the historic cemetery starting at 8AM on Mother’s Day.  There was a great field: estimates at race time were that 375 women and 370 men registered for the event.  I hung out around the start/finish line to bring the highlights below, and you can check out the full set of photos here.  Race runners and watchers: what did you think of the first ever Dead Man’s Run?

I loved it, from the snarky website to the CD in our goodie bags!! My only advice for next year would be to level that HUGE hill to make it a little easier to finish strong (and maybe a few more porta-potties).

Loved that fast downhill start, did a 5:58 for the first mile it was rad…but what goes down, must come up

Had a great time. Beautiful weather and fun, light atmosphere. Nice to have a laid back 5k where there aren’t 4000 participants.

If they are going to continue the race in the future, it might be nice if they would put the race year on the shirt.

  4. I had a great time and loved the route (even the hill at the end)! Running along the river, you can really see the development potential of Reservation 13. It was also nice to see so many people enjoying the Cemetery – it is such an asset to our neighborhood and Hill East. Congrats to the organizers for putting on a wonderful event!

I was one of the race marshals and I had a terrific time. My first race and I really like the variety of the runners. One guy ran that route three times.

Very fun race. The ending hill was a brutal reminder of what we’ll face next Sunday at the Capitol Hill Classic 10k.

Race year on the shirt would be nice, as would posted results of some kind or another. I know I was close to last, but I’m generally curious about other racers times. In retrospect, they never called it a “race” so I shouldn’t have expected results.

Still, you can count on my entry fee next year. That was fun.

I had fun, too! Agreed that the hill @ the end was brutal, however!

A great little race — everyone was enthusiastic, and the volunteers were really cheery. The T-shirt went above and beyond, and including the CD and guidebook to historic places was wonderful.
