Good morning! For most of the parents out there it’s Spring Break for the kiddos. According to my Facebook feed, the smarter/flusher among us have already split town for a week of fun somewhere else. Damn them.
But it wasn’t a bad weekend really. Well, fine sure there were some tornadoes but not on the Hill. It was my favorite kind of weekend: one day blustery and miserable giving you permission to stay indoors. Perhaps it was time to really get that Spring cleaning going? Or maybe you never got dressed and lay on the couch watching Lifetime movies. More than one friend of mine mentioned watching the true story of the Amber behind the Amber alerts.
Either way it was okay because the weather was terrible.
Didn’t that make Sunday’s glorious sunshine even more sweet? I mean do you think San Diegans really appreciate ALL that PERFECT weather? You have to experience tornadoes and thunder-hail just to know how spectacular 75 and sunny can be.
So what did you do this weekend??
Jon: We enjoyed a decadent child-free and dog-free anniversary weekend in the most romantic of cities, Baltimore. Our weekend included seeing Cirque du Soleil’s “Totem” (Nothing says excitement like being in a giant tent during strong rain and gale-force winds) and then a great dinner, followed by brunch this morning and a walk around the Inner Harbor in the sunshine. And yes, we found Baltimore can be romantic.
Nichole: Spent the weekend weathering the storm camping on the Patuxent River. We were rewarded with a lovely double rainbow on Saturday evening when the storm cleared. Got back to DC Sunday for yoga and bathing: both myself and the pooch, who had a little too much fun rolling in the mud for 2.5 days!
Maria: Despite battling an icky spring cold, I managed to relax; eat my body weight in carbohydrates; watch way more Nickelodeon than is appropriate or lawful; and explore the cuteness that is Del Ray.
Claudia: On Saturday I joined a big group of Greater DC Cares Servathon volunteers at Woodlawn Cemetery in the pouring rain…not ideal weather for yard work but we make a much larger dent in two hours that
anyone expected. I spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies in sweats, under several blankets trying to warm up from the cold rain until venturing out for a birthday party. Sunday I spent the day in
Old Town for another birthday, getting brunch, mani/pedis and deep-fried Cadbury Creme Eggs.
Kyra: I enjoyed an early dinner at the Argonaut on Friday with my husband, my daughter and my father. Saturday, my dad and I made our way to Ikea, where we purchased a new bed for the guest bedroom. (It is the place to be on a rainy day, we learned.) On Sunday we headed back to the Argonaut for brunch, after which we all took in the second half of Sunday’s double header at Nats Park. It was the team’s first sweep since August 2008 and our first time above .500 since May 2010. I am cautiously optimistic.
Jen: Friday I once again hosted a sleepover here for an extra kid…I’m socking away sleepover karma. Saturday I woke up early to make sure our guest was up for his insanely early soccer game in the burbs. Spent the day cleaning, reading, Bikramming and then playing some cutthroat Scrabble with the family. Sunday we went to the early Nats game where I found the Gluten free stand (Thanks for the heads up on that Kyra!) and then we went to our eight-year old’s game where he made the game winning catch but has, as of this moment, not yet forgiven his dad for making a call against him.
Claudia,
Where did you get the deep-fried Cadbury creme egg?!!!
Mackenzie – Eamonn’s in Old Town. It was disgustingly awesome 🙂 I’m kind of glad no one on the Hill offers deep-fried junk food because I would indulge far too often…
