Instant Gratification

Exposed: The Polariod Retrospective runs until February 20th at SOVA (1359 H St, NE)

If you haven’t been to SOVA lately, its time to make the trip.  Now until February 20th, the space is alive with a special kind of nostalgia.  Twenty-one photographers armed with retro instant-film cameras have taken thousands of photos for Exposed: The Polaroid Retrospective.

Taken with different types of cameras, these are definitely not your mother’s (or grandmother’s) Polaroids.  The aesthetic is pure 70’s, but many of the subjects are ultra modern.  There are also some creative approaches to the materials themselves, with some artists choosing to deconstruct the distinctive white border, challenging the photos to stay in place.  The layout itself is also quite eye-catching.  I’ve never seen so many works in this space before — they cover the walls and even hang from the ceiling.

If you decide to go over tonight, you can get an extra dose of retro chic from 8-11pm.  Every 3rd Thursday at SOVA, Trash Cat Clothing Xchange runs a pop-up shop for the sale or trade of vintage clothing.  You can even get a sneak peek of this week’s offerings.

Thanks for the reminder– this has been on my to-do list. Do you know is SOVA is still doing Monday game nights?

Last I heard, the plan is to move game night to Sunday because it seemed like Monday was difficult for people’s schedules.
