Lawrence Russell ANC 6A01
My name is Lawrence Russell, but I go by Russ. Many of you that have attended the ANC6A01 meetings and PSA meetings for our area over the past several years have had the chance to interact with me as I have assisted the current Commissioner for some time now. As Commissioner I would like to find a way to get more residents involved in the ANC in order to increase the focus on key issues which affect us most.
First, Parking! I have worked with the current Commissioner on some of the solutions and plan to increase the focus dramatically as the H St corridor traffic increases. Parking has become increasingly difficult and the speed of traffic has become worse. I will work with residents and businesses to come up with solutions that work for everyone. I will get everyone involved via email, meetings, and other means ensuring the entire community has the ability to participate in the solution. My NUMBER ONE PRIORITY will be fixing parking so residents can park within several houses of their property while enabling visitors to the area the ability to enjoy all that this area now has to offer. As a group we can finally fix this ongoing problem.
From my past experience volunteering in our ANC, I understand that parking and traffic are our main issues, but I will also continue to work with MPD on the crime we do have. MPD does a fantastic job of reducing crime, however, with a better ANC partnership we can improve this even more. Getting more people involved in the monthly Patrol Service Area (PSA) meetings will enable the police to better understand our problems. I will also work with the city council to strengthen the laws, such as loitering, ensuring the police have the tools needed.
I am known for reaching across boundaries and plan to do this in the future as ANC commissioner. I will include Gallaudet University into our ANC meetings as their student population makes up a portion of our neighbors. I will also work with other key groups and businesses so we can work in parallel with our neighboring ANC’s and community groups. I have worked with multiple city agencies on our ANC’s behalf over the past several years and would like to continue as the ANC Commissioner.
