Good Morning Hill friends. It was a lovely weekend. Wasn’t it? If you have never been to a Bikram yoga class, well you don’t really need to go because Saturday just felt like being in class in a crowded studio. My heart rate went up just opening the front door. Speaking of sweat, Nats Stadium hosted thousands of sweaty, drunk Dave Matthews Band fans. Damn. I missed it.
Anyone go and have a good story to share?
Ooh yes Kyra did!
Kyra: After a sweaty show at Nats Park featuring the Zac Brown Band and the Dave Mathews Band on Friday night, we spent the rest of the weekend keeping cool either indoors at the northeast library or in the pool in our backyard.
Jon: We fought traffic, torrential downpours, and high heat and humidity for a fun weekend (mostly indoors) with my parents in New York.
Nichole: Bartended a party on Friday (outside – oy) then hit Toyland and Granville Moore’s, staying out WAY too late in the process. Saturday was spent inside, staying cool and catching up on much needed sleep. Crossed the river on Sunday for a matinee of Ramona & Beezus (the former being my dog’s namesake, of course) where the power went out in the theatre and we got caught in the downpour on our way out. Dinner Sunday was also off the Hill, at Proof.
Claudia: On Friday night I was treated to an amazing birthday dinner at Komi after a relaxing day off work. I then continued my birthday celebration on Saturday with dinner at Sticky Rice and dancing at Little Miss Whiskeys. On Sunday I braved the heat and ventured out to brunch at Fusion Grill, and spent the rest of the rest of the afternoon in the pool…until that insane rain storm came through and we moved our festivities indoors. I ended the night at another friend’s birthday BBQ before settling in for the season premier of Mad Men.
Jen: Checked out the Temporium Friday night (more on that tomorrow) but forgot to get my cupcake, drat. Peeked in on the Lady Gaga class at Joy of Motion and again vowed to get my act together and take a class because they always look like fun. Saturday prepared for a dinner party by stocking up at the H Street Farmers’ market and the amazing Mediterranean Bakery and Cafe in Alexandria (it’s a haul but worth the trip). After a triumphant evening, made even better by the fact that everything was clean before we went to bed, we relaxed on Sunday and went to the pool only to be rained out again. Considering how much cooler it is now it was worth it.
Sharee: We (marginally) escaped from the heat by retreating to the Eastern Shore and watching lots of movies. The final verdict for the weekend: plenty of conversation generated by Inception and Remember Me – especially Inception – but Salt was a major disappointment. Wrapped up the weekend with a late night trip to SE Safeway, where I saw a tattoo that shall forever be burned into my brain.
Maria: Cooled off on Friday night with several Lavender gin and juices at Wisdom, and had some of their dangerously good crab gratin; ran errands in the heat on Saturday and had amazing ceviche and tiramisù at Park Cafe (not at the same time); and cleaned up my air conditioned house on Sunday.
Liz: We went to a kegger at Heatha’s after a day at Cheverly pool, where even the water was hot, and celebrated in the cool rain Sunday after a day so hot, someone left an egg on the sidewalk ostensibly to see if it would cook. Then watched Mad Men premier with all its cool, tinkling glasses…
Robert: Friday dinner was a Lobster roll and 1/2 a bottle of Chardonnay. Saturday was spent at the Harpswell Festival, including a stint marching with the Bailey’s Island Kazoo Orchestra, then a stop at Stover’s beach before heading home and making lobster for dinner. Sunday was spent driving. The less said about this the better.
Scott: We drove a lot on Saturday. First, out to Middleburg, VA to buy some Certified Humane meat and then all the way in the opposite direction to Baltimore to visit friends. Sunday was spent in Georgetown looking for a dress for my wife for a wedding next weekend, followed by a fantastic dinner with friends at Acqua al 2 by Eastern Market.

What was the deal with the man hunt on Capitol Hill East early Saturday evening?
Alas, I don’t have a good story. The weather made for a less than pleasant experience.
