Upcoming Community Meetings

It’s the second week of the month and despite the mess that is downtown thanks to the Nuclear Security Summit, it should be business as usual for the Hill’s ANCs (Advisory Neighborhood Commissions) and PSAs (Police Service Areas).  So here’s a quick run down of what’s coming up this week and next.  Be sure to check our Community Meeting Calendar for events each month so you can stay up to date with what’s going on around the neighborhood.  One thing of particular interest to residents on the southeast side of the Hill: CSX will be presenting at the ANC 6D and 6B meetings, sharing new renderings of the project’s construction plan, new traffic studies, and CSX’s vision for the project’s completion.  ANC 6B commissioner, Norm Metzger, has a preview on his blog.

  • Monday, April 12: ANC 6D will meet at 7 pm at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, 140 L Street SE, in the 2nd Floor Admiral Rooms at at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church located at 600 M Street, SW.  The agenda can be viewed on their Web site.  Some items of note include presentations from CSX, the organizers of the Army 10-miler, the organizers of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, American River Taxi, and an update from the Nationals.
  • Tuesday, April 13: ANC 6B will meet at 7 am at The People’s Church, located at 535 8th, SE. (note the change of location as this meeting usually takes place at the Old Naval Hospital).  The agenda can be viewed on their Web site — some items of note include the presentation from CSX, and update on the Barney Circle Historic District designation, a presentation from the organizers of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, an update on Chat’s Liquors’ request for an exemption on the sale of single beers and Banana Cafe’s request to extend their hours and their outdoor seating.  Also on Tuesday, the Trinidad Neighborhood Association will meet at the Trinidad Recreation Center 1310 Childress Steet, NE, at 7pm, and the PSA 102 monthly meeting will be held at 7 pm at the Sherwood Recreation Center, corner of 10th and G Streets, NE.
  • Wednesday, April 14: ANC 6C will meet at 7 pm at the Heritage Foundation, located at 214 Massachusetts Avenue NE.  The agenda has not yet been updated, but should be posted on their Web site in the coming days.  Also on Wednesday, the PSA 103 monthly meeting will be held at 7 pm at Miner Elementary School 601 15th Street, NE.
  • Thursday, April 15: The PSA 107 monthly meeting will be held at Liberty Baptist Church 527 Kentucky Avenue, SE at 7 pm.
  • Tuesday, April 20: DDOT, ANC 6A, 6C and 5B will hold a community meeting on the progress of the streetcars at 6:30 pm at the Wheatley Elementary School, located at 1299 Neal Street, NE.  More information can be found here.

“Solar Power for Hot Water and Electricity”

Location: Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, 421 Seward Sq SE (5th and Pennsylvania Ave, SE), Washington DC.

Come join us to learn how to harness the power of the sun – for hot water and electricity. Learn how to save money, lower your carbon footprint, and help reduce the need for coal and non-renewable energy sources.

Solar Hot Water – Carlo La Porta and Judy Kosovich of Capital Sun Group will lead a discussion about costs, technology options, and installation considerations for solar hot water systems. Although the District government has not offered rebates or incentives for solar hot water heating, rumors abound that a new rebate program is coming soon. This timely session can help you start planning ahead.

Solar Electricity – solar panels have arrived on the Hill, and the Coop is making it happen. Come hear a panel discussion of the first coop members to go solar. You will leave the meeting with all you need to get started.
