The To Do List

It’s a big weekend coming up. Passover is ending, Easter is Sunday and there’s that little tree flower festival down by the Mall that gets people pretty crazy.

But what if you are over the matzo already, have no interest in bunnies and have a debilitating allergy to tourists?  Well, let’s see if there is ANYthing else going on to entertain you

Lets start with tonight. It’s the monthly singer/songwriter showcase at Ebenezeer’s Coffehouse (201 F Street NE) called Modern Underground. Hosted by musician and Hill resident Laura Tsaggaris, this month the event features two DC area talents, Luke Brindley and Todd Wright. She will perform a bit and then turn over the stage to her guests.  Doors open at 7 PM and the show goes from 7:30 to 9:30. If you go, please report back and let us know how it was.

Friday, April 2nd, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is hosting a Violin and Piano Concert featuring Jocelyn Adelman and Eliza Ching. The event is a concert of classical and twentieth-century music featuring  “Sonata in E Major” by Paul Hindemith, “Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 454” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and “Divertimento” by Igor Stravinsky. The performance is at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $10 at the door or call (202) 547-6839 or email victor [at] chaw [dot] org to reserve.

Saturday we have a big day planned so pace yourself …

Take the kiddos or your snail-mail fan friends to the National Postal Museum which is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express. From 10 AM to 5:30 PM there will be kid-friendly activities, puppet shows, scavenger hunts and snacks.

You got your history and now you need some culture. We have you covered! The Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series at the Atlas features the Mariinsky Ballet performing Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Did you know the Mariinsky is actually the famed Kirov Ballet? It was a Soviet era name that they now only use when they tour outside of Russia. The film begins at 2 PM. Tickets are $20 and you can buy them online.

After the ballet head over to the Southwest Waterfront when the Washington Waterfront Association will host the 5th annual Prelude to the Fireworks event. Music, food and crafts will entertain crowds but the main event will the hit the skies at 8:30 PM.

After all that wholesome fun you can take in the Skullduggery and Skin show at 10 PM. It features a typical Palace of Wonders line up with burlesque, magic and The Worlds Most Dangerous Daredevil Doggy, Ruby the Wonder Dog. Where else in DC will you see Miss Coney Island 2009 perform her Five Alarm Fire? And, no, I have no idea if that’s a euphemism for something racy or if she’ll really be doing tricks with fire…it’s the Palace so I’m betting both.
