Hill Buzz

So it seems that all the talk about how the city would be a gridlocked mess — what my boss excitedly named “commutageddon” — scared everyone into working from home, leaving my commute from the Hill to downtown as easy and pleasant as you get during August Recess.  Any ideas on how to make this a regular thing?  While we contemplate how to make that a reality, refill your cup of coffee and settle in for some morning reading.

  • New York Magazine featured Spike Sunday Pool Parties at the Capitol Skyline Hotel, Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar, and H Street Country Club in their recent article on travel destinations for partiers.
  • According to the Going Out Gurus, Mendocino’s Drew Trautman (who also used to be a chef at Sonoma), is looking to open a restaurant on Capitol Hill, where he lives.
  • Capitol Bites reviewed Liberty Tree.
  • How exciting – you can have your very own, very colorful, H-shaped planter!  Looks like the city is finally getting rid of these ugly trash-magnets and planting trees in the tree boxes along H Street.
  • H Street Great Street noticed that Tom Sietsema is still talking up Toyland online.  Tom, please stop – we like that our neighborhood bars aren’t overly crowded!
  • Greater Greater Washington and Urban Turf talked some more about those overhead streetcar wires.
  • City Paper has some more details on the water taxis coming to the ballpark.
  • JD Land reported that Justin’s Cafe is scheduled to open on April 16.  Justin’s Cafe will be a restaurant with a full bar, open seven days a week with regular bar hours, just a few blocks up First Street from Nationals Park.  JD Land has an electronic version of their menu posted on her Web site.
  • Prince of Petworth featured the smallest rental house in DC, which happens to be on Capitol Hill.
  • JD Land met with CSX to get a preview of the updates they will give at the upcoming ANC meetings.

That is great news about Drew Trautman coming back to the Hill. His new spot would be very welcome on H Street!

I love THIH and the Hill Buzz but every time I see the picture of coffee cup I wonder if it is from a cafe on the Hill. Are there some flickr photos from Port City Java, Peregrine, Sova or Sidamo you could use? So when I am tempted by it, I can go get it! Thanks!

  3. @HillCoffee I’m glad you like the column and the pictures 🙂 Sadly, I have not seen many Hill-specific coffee pictures on Flickr but I’ll take your challenge and try to find some more. If you happen to snap any good pictures, please add them to our Flickr group!
