Cruise Control at Capitol Riverfront Summer Film Festival. Let Tom and friends take you into the Danger Zone for a FREE screening of Top Gun at dusk (8:45pm) near Tingey Plaza.

Head over to SOVA on H St. for a mellow night of folk music and try out their impressive and original selection of cocktails, wines and beers while you’re there.

If beer minus all of that other distracting stuff  is more your thing, Wisdom is holding their Beer Club tasting at 7:30.  Check out Kate’s thoughts on Wisdom HERE.

For the unemployed among us (or those with a free hour from 10am-11am), Cooper-Hewitt is hosting a series of FREE public programs celebrating design in DC, in conjunction with the 2009 National Design Awards. All events take place at the Corcoran (not on the Hill, but this is too neat not to share).  More info can be found HERE.

Venture East of the River Friday night for Honfleur Gallery’s FREE Summer Concert Series at 9pm with the Bellevederes.  Earlier (beginning at 7pm), join Honfleur for the closing night festivities of the Reincorporation Jamboree.  Or consider making a night of gallery hopping and starting at Vivid Solutions just a few blocks away, which presents Timelines.

Of course, don’t forget Jazz in the Garden from 5:30-8pm, or closer to home, Jazz Night in Southwest at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 6-9pm.

Saturday July 25

Come to Marion Square Park at 10am for PSA 105’s Annual Dog Show!  Join MPD, your neighbors and their pups for this fun community event where you can enter Fido in such contests as Smallest Dog and Best Trick!  You don’t have to reside within the confines of PSA 105 to enter, and beauty and talent aren’t the keys to winning prizes – woof!

Get your glowsticks out for Brightest Young Things’ weekly Summer Camp at the pool at the Capitol Skyline Hotel.  This week is Rave Camp.  The fun begins at Noon, and BYT has all the info HERE.

At 11am, the Capitol Hip Hop Soul Fest kicks off over at Marvin Gaye Park in Deanwood.  This is a very cool – and FREE – way to spend an afternoon with some of the area’s rising stars of hip hop.  Get out and support your local artists!

Keg tossing, arm wrestling and fast pitch contests are the order of the day at the Bullpen, where the Battle of the Biceps gets going at 12:30.  It’s totally Over the Top!

Heat things up at Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill’s 3rd Anniversary Party!  The celebration gets going at 7pm.

After all that fierce competition at Marion Square, bring your pup over to the Northeast side of the Hill to Union Pub for Pooches on the Patio from Noon to 4 for food and drink specials and canine commradery.

Ongoing this weekend, the Forum Theatre presents dark play at the H St. Playhouse.  Check the preceding links for showtimes and ticket availability.

Monday July 27

Screen on the Green is showing Dog Day Afternoon this Monday evening at dusk.  Pack your picnic and hit the Mall for some Pacino!
