Kids:

Students Can Ride Metrorail Free Starting 8/17

Screen Shot 2015-07-28 at 9.47.10 AMDCPS and DC public charter school students (ages 5-21) can now get a $100 subsidy to go to school and school events via MetroRail, starting August 17, 2015, or exactly one week before the start of school, August 24, 2015. (Click here to see DCPS’s 2015-16 calendar.) According to DDOT, “in order to receive the $100 Metrorail benefit, students must obtain a DC One Card and register their card on the DC One Card website.”

To simplify your life (and possibly take advantage of the subsidy myself), I have put together some useful links:

1. Make sure you’re a resident of the District of Columbia and that you’re able to prove it.

2. Fill out a DCOne application by clicking here.

3. Print out your application and take it to one of the locations that issue the physical cards.

4. Register your card right over here.

5. Hope your kid doesn’t lose the card. (Ha.)

Good luck, parents and guardians! School is almost upon us– YAY.
