Ghosts of Capitol Hill: A New Ghost

GhostRequestMost of the ghost stories told about Capitol Hill are old. It seems that either there was a lot more paranormal activity here in the 19th century, or people spoke about it more – and newspapers were more willing to publish stories about haunted buildings.

In researching the ghost stories, I found only one that is known to continue to makes its presence known until today, so I was hoping that in leading ghost tours, others who had felt something supernatural would tell me about it. And indeed it happened.

Friendship House or Friendship Curse?

Friendship House or Friendship Curse?

Today’s ghost story is not so much one where the ghost and its back story have been researched; rather, it is a request for assistance. Kathryn Anderson, a member of our tour last week described feeling “a quick blast of silent noise alerting me that a being was there.” When she turned, there was, of course, nothing there. This happened twice – both times in the middle of the day, when she was alone.

The third time it happened, she “felt that great blast of energy (like a whoosh, sort of, but short, powerful, and, evidently silent).” Except she was not alone this time.  The friend  with her did not notice anything.

Later, another odd occurrence happened in the same location. In spite of there being no one around “a sprinkler came on quite suddenly and blasted me with water, then went off just as fast.”

All this happened in the 600 block of D Street SE, across the street from Friendship House  – which itself was known to house a ghost through the middle of the 19th Century.

I would love to find out who or what this being is. And I ask you, my readers, to help out: Have you felt anything on this stretch? Has anything out of the ordinary happened to you there? Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed in the comments section.

Ghost Tours continue next weekend, with kids’ tours on both Saturday (4:00 PM) and Sunday (11:00 AM) More details can be found here.

  1. I’ve never been there, but I’ve had experiences before, its all about being in tune, with your spiritual awareness. I’m sure everything she and you both experienced was real as real gets.
