Folger Theater’s Arcadia Honored

Several local theaters were nominated for the 2010 Helen Hayes Awards, but it was Folger Theater’s Arcadia that came out on top.  This Tom Stoppard play explores the relationships between past and present with a little chaos theory and rules of thermodynamics thrown in for good measure.  It was one of the few trips to the theater I’ve taken that was preceded by a math refresher.

It was Eric Hissom’s Bernard Nightingale, the present day professor eager to find support for his hypothesis about the death of Lord Byron, that took Outstanding Supporting Actor, Resident Play.  Erin Weaver was honored with Outstanding Supporting Actress, Resident Play for her role as Thomasina Coverly, the brilliant teen from 1809 that challenges her tutor (a friend of Byron) at every turn.

The play also starred Holly Twyford, who was nominated for multiple roles – including for Arcadia – but won for The Little Dog Laughed at Signature Theater.
