The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced last week that Barracks Row Main Street was one of ten recipients of funding through DDOT’s Transportation Enhancement Program.
The grants are intended to improve the pedestrian experience around the city and Barracks Row Main Street seeks to do this while also connecting visitors to the history of the street. The funding will go toward the conservation of three murals along Barracks Row (pictured below) – these murals were incorporated into the historic walking tours given regularly along Barracks Row, including Smithsonian Food & History Tours which started this weekend on Nov. 1st.
To see the listing of all the projects that were selected, go to DDOT’s Website.
Do you know where, along Barracks Row, these three murals can be found?
I think the top one is on the south side of 295 on 8th street on the car repair shop that usually has all the taxis in the front yard.
I think one of them is in that lot by Chateau Animaux too – I need to talk a walk over there this weekend to find them myself! It’s funny how these wall murals just blend into the background after a while.
